Friday night in the Association will feature two interconference teams going at it. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Spurs-76ers prediction and pick.

The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a win against the Boston Celtics last time out. They swept Boston on the season and will look to continue to play well on their road trip. The Philadelphia 76ers are on a five-game winning streak and hoping to continue that streak with a win against a good young Spurs team. The 76ers used to be very good at home, but are just 7-8 this season. San Antonio is 8-12 in road games.

Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

The Spurs are not going to get beat easily. Their record shows it's been a down season so far but they are in most games they play. In their last five games, the Spurs are 5-5 and are averaging 116.8 points per game. Their offense is slowly improving and it's led by Dejounte Murray who is averaging 18 points, 8.1 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Those are incredible numbers and ones that are being overlooked. Murray is one of the better young guards in the NBA and he will be a big factor in the Spurs covering tonight if it happens.

Philadelphia isn't as good of a rebounding team as they used to be. That is something the Spurs need to focus on in this game as well. If they can control the boards then they will create second-chance opportunities and keep themselves in the game. The 76ers continue to defend well so it will be on the Spurs to find the weakness in the defense. The Spurs have a couple of role players out for Friday night due to covid-19. San Antonio is 21-16 against the spread.

Why The 76ers Could Cover The Spread

The 76ers are 18-19 against the spread this season. They are favored coming in and are capable of covering this spread. One thing the 76ers need to do better is rebound. When you have Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond on your roster, there is no excuse not to be one of the top rebounding teams in the league. Embiid is back healthy and is averaging 26.7 points per game. They will need to rely on him tonight because there isn't really anyone on the Spurs who can defend him well enough. Seth Curry is another name to pay attention to because he is shooting north of 40% from beyond the arc this season.

The 76ers are 6-4 in their last 10 games and are on the verge of a 6-game winning streak. If they want to cover this spread they need to make sure their defense stays intact guarding the Spurs young core. The 76ers have a chance to continue to move up in the East if they get the job done Friday night.

Final Spurs-76ers Prediction & Pick

The 76ers are flying high right now and I think they will find a way to win this game and keep their streak alive. But I am going to take the Spurs to cover this spread in a nail-biter. San Antonio is finding a way to keep games close and I think that will happen again tonight, even on the road.

Final Spurs-76ers Prediction & Pick: Spurs +7 (-114)
