The NBA has returned! After what feels like a very long all-star break, the regular season continues with games on Friday. The San Antonio Spurs will hit the road and take on the Washington Wizards. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Spurs-Wizards prediction and pick.
Both of these teams have had very similar seasons so far. The San Antonio Spurs have struggled but managed to win three of their last four games before the break. While the Washington Wizards have been all over the place and have struggled to be consistent. This should be a solid match between two teams of similar calibers.

The San Antonio Spurs have not had a great year. Through 59 games, they only have 23 wins and 39 losses. However, the Spurs entered the all-star break with some solid momentum. San Antonio had dominant victories over the Hawks and the Pelicans, then they dropped a game to the Bulls, but managed to defeat the Thunder. The Spurs have been looking better and better and will look to build on that momentum in this first game back from the break. It will be very interesting to see how they adjust and hold up against a team like the Wizards.
San Antonio actually played a very competitive match against the Chicago Bulls. The Spurs entered the fourth quarter holding a six-point lead, but were outscored by 17 in that last quarter and ultimately dropped the game. The Spurs have been finding more success recently not only because some key contributors returned, but because of their style of basketball. In San Antonio, the scoring is spread throughout the team. Everyone on the roster contributes and comes together to win games. If the Spurs can keep that up then they won't only win games now, but they will certainly have success in the future.
One of the best things about the all-star break is that it gives players time to recover. Right now, teams may be the healthiest they have been since the beginning of the season. With COVID and injuries, players have missed significant time. However, after the break, teams are finally getting healthy. The Spurs currently have only two players listed on their injury report, both of which are listed as day-to-day. With a healthy roster and a solid game plan, this Spurs team should be able to steal a win on the road.
Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread
The Washington Wizards have had a rollercoaster of a year. There have been points when they have been competitive with some of the top teams in the league, yet they have also struggled against lesser opponents. Through their first 58 games, they have a losing record with 27 wins and 31 losses. They won two of their last three matches before the break and will look to build on what has been an underwhelming season thus far. If Washington can start gaining momentum then they will be looking to make a push in this second half of the season.
The Wizards have been leaning heavily on Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. These two guys have been the majority suppliers of offense in Washington. A lot of the Wizards' success has been tied to their performances. When these players have a good scoring night it usually means that the team is doing well. However, it's a double-edged sword, since when they struggle the team also struggles. Whether or not these players are having a good night will have a big impact on the outcome of this match.
Prior to the all-star break, it was announced that Bradley Beal would undergo season-ending injury. To a team that had been struggling to stay healthy, this was a devastating blow. The only other players listed on the injury report are Thomas Bryant and Kristaps Porzingis. Bryant is listed as questionable for Friday's match while Porzingis is out. The Wizards acquired Porzingis right before the trade deadline, and Washington fans are highly anticipating his return. For the most part, this team is healthy and should be competitive on Friday.
Final Spurs-Wizards Prediction & Pick
This should be a close match. Both of these teams are in the middle of the pack and are just trying to show some signs of strength. The Spurs seem a bit more put together than Wizards and they should have the edge here. Washington has really struggled as a team while San Antonio seems to be coming together well. With the absence of Beal for the rest of the season and Porzingis' constant injuries, Washington may just call it a season. With all that said, pick the Spurs to win and cover.
