The Phoenix Suns will pay a visit to Little Caesars Arena to take on the Detroit Pistons in a Sunday afternoon matchup between the best team in the NBA and the team with second-worst record in the league. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our NBA odds series, which includes our Suns-Pistons prediction and pick we have laid out below.

The Suns enter the game with two straight wins, the most recent being an easy 112-94 drubbing of the Indiana Pacers. They are also winners of five of their last six outings and are 1.5 games above the No. 2 seed Golden State Warriors.

Meanwhile, the Pistons are coming off an impressive home victory over the Toronto Raptors. Detroit has been rolling as off late, save for a 133-87 beatdown they suffered at the hands of the Chicago Bulls. The Pistons have won three of their last four games, including a double-digit win over the Utah Jazz last week.

Here is how FanDuel has set the Suns-Pistons NBA odds for this Saturday night NBA matchup.

Why the Suns could cover the spread

Article Continues Below

The Phoenix Suns should have the advantage on this one. They are healthy and whole after getting battered with COVID issues a couple of weeks ago. Chris Paul and Devin Booker are having All-Star caliber campaigns once again, while Deandre Ayton is having a superb 4th season.

Frank Kaminsky, Dario Saric, and Abdel Nader are the only players listed as out, which means the Suns could have pretty much all their main guys on Sunday against Detroit. Cam Johnson, however, is questionable with a left ankle sprain. The third-year wing has missed Phoenix's last couple of games due to the injury.

The Suns are 32-9 on the season. They are 12-2 against Eastern Conference teams and are tied with the Brooklyn Nets for the best road record in the NBA at 15-4. Against the spread, Phoenix is at 22-19.

Why the Pistons could cover the spread

The Pistons are the obvious underdogs here. But they have surprised some teams with impressive showings against the Jazz and the Raptors this past week. This year's no. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham has been one of the main reasons for their success over this stretch.

Cunningham exploded for a career-high 29 points against the Jazz. He shot 10-of-17 from the field, drained five 3-pointers, and added eight assists in the 10-point win. The 19-year-old also played well against the Raptors last Friday, notching 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

The Pistons are still missing Jerami Grant, who has been out since mid-December due to thumb surgery. They are also going to be without veterans Frank Jackson and Rodney McGruder due to health and safety protocols. Kelly Olynyk is listed as doubtful with a left knee sprain.

Detroit owns the second-worst record in the NBA at 10-31. They hold a 7-13 at home and are 3-12 against the West. Against the spread, the Pistons are much better than their actual record suggests at 19-21.

Final Suns-Pistons prediction and pick

It's easy to go with the Suns in this one, but Detroit's surge as of late makes it challenging to just outright pick Phoenix to cover the spread. The play of Detroit's youngsters in Cade Cunningham and Saddiq Bey has been a ray of hope for Pistons fans over this past week. Nonetheless, the defending Western Conference champions could prove to be too much for this young squad. Just don't hope that Hooper, the Pistons' mascot, doesn't irk Devin Booker too much to affect his play. Or maybe Hooper will fuel him to put on a show on Sunday, which would not bode well for Detroit.
