Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

The Phoenix Suns have been quite possibly the best team in the NBA this season. Through their first 65 games, they have an impressive record of 52-13. However, in spite of their most recent win over the Magic, this Suns team has been struggling. The Suns have lost to both the Bucks and the Jazz, two competitive games that Phoenix should have won. They managed to beat the Knicks and the Blazers, but those games shouldn't even be competitive. The Suns are kind of all over the place right now and are looking to get back on track. Wednesday's match will be another tough one, and if the Suns can come out on top then they should be able to get back on track.

While injuries may play a big part in their recent struggles, this Suns team is more than talented enough to remain competitive. In their win over the Magic, Deandre Ayton impressed with 21 points and 19 rebounds. This performance is not unusual from the Phoenix big man who is averaging nearly 17 points and 10 rebounds a game. In their loss to Milwaukee, the Suns actually kept pace and led for most of the game. However, they let the Bucks come back and take over with a dominant fourth quarter. In their loss to the Jazz they also had control for the first half, but let Utah take a lead in the third and put them away in the fourth. The Suns have been playing a strong first half but have been coming up short in the second half.

As stated previously, the biggest roadblock for this team is injuries. When the Suns are healthy they are the best team in the league, but when they are injured they have struggled to be competitive. Currently, Phoenix has four players listed on their injury report. Devin Booker is set to return tonight against the Heat after missing the last few games on the covid-19 list.

Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread

The Miami Heat have had an impressive season. Through their first 66 games, they are 44-22. With double as many wins as they have losses, the Heat have started to gain traction. Miami is coming off three straight victories, including wins over the Nets and the Sixers. Their most recent win, however, came against the Rockets by 17. The Heat will look to build on their recent successes and secure a win against the Suns on Wednesday.

This Heat team is very deep. They have a seven-man rotation of players who contribute 20+ minutes and are beginning to ramp up Oladipo's playing time. The stars are starting to align in Miami, and they will get a chance to continue to prove themselves on Wednesday. One of the most impressive things about the Heat is how well balanced they are as a team. Multiple players could easily score 20+ points and they are tough to match up with. Phoenix will likely struggle to contain this Heat team, and Miami should be able to add another win to their list.

The only thing that can stand in Miami's way is injuries. Currently, the Heat have three players listed on their injury report. Both Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin are listed as questionable for the match. Their availability could have a huge impact on the outcome of the game. However, the Heat have enough of their roster available that they should be able to come out on top. Expect Miami to come into this one ready to compete and win.

Final Suns-Heat Prediction & Pick

Given the possible injuries in Miami, this isn't an easy decision. Both these teams could struggle, but it could go either way. The Suns have not looked good against competitive teams lately. They have shown they can still beat the bottom-tier teams, but haven't shown that they can win without their best guys. Miami, on the other hand, has enough depth to dominate even without Jimmy Butler. The Heat have played through injuries all season and should come out on top in this one. Pick the Heat to win and cover.
