These two teams have had somewhat similar seasons so far. The Oklahoma City Thunder are having a horrible season and are coming off an embarrassing blowout loss. While the Denver Nuggets have been solid and have won all of their games since the all-star break. This should be an interesting match between two teams trending in opposite directions.

Why The Thunder Could Cover The Spread
The Oklahoma City Thunder have been one of the worst teams in basketball. What was already pegged as a rebuilding year was only made more difficult by injuries. The Thunder have struggled to be competitive, even against fairly even opponents. OKC's most recent defeat came at the hands of the Sacramento Kings by 21. This loss was much larger than it should have been and can be seen as indicative of the Thunder's state. OKC is not a team that really wants to win games, and while they could make Wednesday's match competitive, that seems to be unlikely,
Article Continues BelowThis Thunder team relies far too heavily on their best player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA is a great player but he is not good enough to carry a team to consistent victories. In their loss to Sacramento, SGA was the only player on the team to score more than 12 points. He was also one of two players to play for over 30 minutes. OKC seems to beat down and is looking like they have given up on the season. The odds of them winning on Wednesday seem slim to none. In order for OKC to make this a competitive match, they need players to support SGA.
Part of the problem for this team is injuries. The players that would usually provide support for SGA and help keep OKC in games are all injured. Currently, the Thunder have seven players listed on their injury report, all of which are listed as out ahead of Wednesday's game. For a team that was already struggling to be missing so many players seems a bit unfair, but that's basketball. The Thunder are likely just looking ahead towards the draft and future seasons at this point.
Why The Nuggets Could Cover The Spread
The Denver Nuggets have faced their share of adversity but are definitely starting to gain some momentum. The Nuggets struggled at points this season, but seem to be peaking at the right time. Through their first 61 games, they have a record of 36-25. They have played three games since the all-star break and have won all of them. Two of those games were against the Kings, who just beat OKC by 21. Needless to say, things are looking good for Denver in this match. Expect the Nuggets to come out strong and try and keep the same energy and momentum building. Denver is a favorite in this match for a good reason.
The Nuggets' most recent victory came over the Portland Trail Blazers by 32. In that match, not a single player on the Nuggets team played 30+ minutes. Rather, playing time was evenly distributed with nine players contributing 20+ minutes. While the Trail Blazers are an exceptionally vulnerable team right now, the win was still impressive. In the two games prior, Denver faced off against Sacramento and scored two wins. While the Nuggets' recent competition may not be the best in the league, they are still scoring dominant victories. That trend will likely continue as they face the Thunder.
Part of the reason for this team's success is that they regained some previously injured players. Currently, the Nuggets have four players on their injury report, however, most of those players have been there for a decent amount of time. The all-star break gave the Nuggets a chance to regain some players that were day-to-day and for the rest of the roster to get some rest. That seems to have been extremely beneficial and the Nuggets have certainly capitalized on the break. Denver is back and they should be able to get another win on Wednesday.
Final Thunder-Nuggets Prediction & Pick
The spreads for Thunder games just keep getting wider and wider. But OKC continues to come up short in covering even 10+ point spreads. That trend continues for this match-up as the Nuggets are massive favorites. Even with the wide spread, Denver seems to be the correct pick. They have won two of their last three games by 18 and 32. Also, two of their last three victories came against the team that just dominated the Thunder, so Denver is the obvious pick here. Pick the Nuggets to win and cover.
FINAL THUNDER-NUGGETS PICK: Denver Nuggets -14.5 (-112)
FINAL THUNDER-NUGGETS SCORE PREDICTION: Nuggets 128 – Thunder 102
