Portland found ways to beat good teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies but fell to the Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets the last two games. They have won three of their last five games but are still only (25-36) on the season. Portland is 11th in the Western Conference so they still have a chance at the playoffs, but need this win tonight against the short-handed Suns.

Phoenix controls the best record in the NBA by a wide margin. They are (49-12) but have lost the last two games. Phoenix fell to the New Orleans Pelicans followed by the Utah Jazz. They are without Chris Paul as he deals with the hand injury, and now Devin Booker has been placed on the covid-19 list. This could end up being the toughest stretch of the season for the Suns.

Why The Blazers Could Cover The Spread

With CP3 and Booker out for the Suns, I actually like the Blazers' chances of covering here, compared to the Suns covering. It's an 11-point spread which is doable for them to cover. I believe the Suns will find a way to win the game but without their two best players, it's going to be hard to find a rhythm. The Suns are (26-7) at home this season which is an incredible record. The Blazers are just (9-18) on the road so they struggle playing away from Portland. The Blazers will need to focus on containing DeAndre Ayton and Mikal Bridges tonight. Cameron Payne is also out so the backups will be either Aaron Holiday or Elfrid Payton.

The Suns are still good enough to cover this spread as they have found ways to win games all season long. Portland just needs to make sure the Suns don't get out to an early lead or else they could be in trouble. Josh Hart has been averaging 19 points since arriving in Portland and he alongside Anfernee Simons will be their main factor in this game.

Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread

The Suns will likely win this game with their defense. But if they want to cover this spread, they have to find a way to create open looks. CP3 and Booker are out so it will be a group effort to get it done. It's going to be hard for them to find a facilitator as those two are the main reasons for their success. The Suns need to contain Hart and Simons tonight as those two will be leading the way for Portland. If they do that, then there is no reason why the Suns can't continue their hot run and get back on track. Jusuf Nurkic is out with a foot injury as well as Eric Bledsoe. Justise Winslow is day-to-day with an achillies injury. It's going to be tough to be consistent as long as Booker is out, luckily the duration is five days and not 10 days like the old plan was.

Final Blazers-Suns Prediction & Pick

I want to believe the Suns will still find a way to win, but this spread is too difficult to choose here. I just don't believe the spread is worth risking here as both teams are seriously short-handed. It should be a low-scoring affair so take the under at 224.

Final Blazers-Suns Pick: Under 224 (-110)
