The Associaton continues Saturday night with this elite interconference battle! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Wizards-Grizzlies prediction and pick.
The Washington Wizards are starting to slow down after a hot start to the season. They have lost four-straight games and have seen their record fall below .500. The Wizards are (23-25) on the season and are coming off of a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers after blowing a 35-point lead.
The Memphis Grizzlies on the other hand are fresh off a win over the Utah Jazz 119-109 and won their second consecutive game. They control the 3rd seed in the Western Conference with a (34-17) record. Memphis leads the Southwest Division by five games and will likely go on to win it unless the Dallas Mavericks go on a huge run in the second half of the season. This has the makings of a pretty good game if the Wizards show up on the road.

Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread
This won't be an easy one, but they are capable of covering this spread. Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, and Spencer Dinwiddie need to all be on their game. Washington was playing very well in the first half against the Clippers but collapsed in the second half to give up the game. This is a well-balanced team that can go on a run at any team because we have seen it this season already. They just need to find a way to be consistent on both sides of the floor. They have the offensive talent to score points but on the defensive side is where they struggle.

In the last 10 games, the Wizards are (4-6) averaging 111 points per game. They are (10-13) on the road this season while the Grizzlies are (18-9) at home. Washington will need to try and contain Ja Morant and Desmond Bane who are both playing very well lately. The Grizzlies lead the league in fast-break points and Morant averages 4.4 fast-break points per game. If the Wizards let that continue to happen then they will be struggling to keep up this game.
Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread
Memphis comes into this game as the favorites at home. This is the right call because they have been dominant on their homecourt and are playing (7-3) in their last 10 games. They will be missing Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson once again but they still have the depth to win games. The Grizzlies will need to win this game by a comfortable margin to cover this spread. This game has one of those feeling where it favors Morant's ability. The Wizards don't defend very well so I wouldn't be surprised if we see another career night from Morant.
On the other end of the floor, however, they must contain Bradley Beal. Beal is one of the best shooting guards in the NBA and can take over a game at any time. It will be exciting to see him and Morant go back and forth all night long. These teams meet for the second time this season and the Wizards won the first matchup 115-87. Morant did not play for the Grizzlies and Jaron Jackson Jr. led the team with only 13 points. As mentioned earlier, this matchup has the chance to be a very good one if the Wizards show up on the road where they have been average all year.
Final Wizards-Grizzlies Prediction & Pick
I'm taking the Grizzlies to cover this spread at home. This seems like a favorable matchup for them at the right time as both teams are trending in opposite directions. This also has the makings of a high-scoring affair with both teams allowing over 110 points per game in their last 10. Consider taking the over as well.
