- April 2021: New York state legislators passed the state budget bill for the fiscal year 2022, paving the way for online and mobile sports betting. This allowed the New York State Gaming Commission to initiate a bidding and approval process for sportsbook operators.
- August 2021: Sportsbook platforms began applying for online sports betting licenses in New York.
- November 2021: Nine sportsbook operators were awarded online sports betting licenses from the New York State Gaming Commission.
- January 8, 2022: Online New York sports betting officially launches.
