The New York Giants will take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Giants-Chargers prediction and pick.
These teams are pretty much at polar opposite points, both in terms of their franchises and their seasons. The Giants are in the midst of yet another disappointing year, as their 4-8 record will see them miss the postseason for the fifth consecutive season. New York is a franchise in flux, unlike the Chargers. Los Angeles is looking to return to the playoffs for the first time with quarterback Justin Herbert at the helm. A victory here would give the Chargers an 8-5 record, which is good enough to contend for the AFC West title. Both teams have a lot to play for, so it should be an entertaining matchup.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowThis is a big spread for any team to cover, but especially the Chargers. Los Angeles is 6-6 on the year against the spread, but they're only 2-5 ATS when they enter the game as the favorite. The Chargers are also only 2-4 against the spread when they play on their home turf. On the other hand, the Giants have been decent when it comes to covering. They're 6-5 ATS as underdogs, while also holding a decent 3-3 record against the spread on the road.
While the Chargers have been an above-average team this season, they do have one huge weakness. Los Angeles seemingly finds it impossible to stop opposing run games, as they allow a whopping 145 rushing yards per game to their opponents. The Chargers also allow 4.7 yards per carry to opposing running backs, which is one of the worst figures in the league. The Giants should be able to get the ground game going here, which will benefit everything they do.
This may seem like a great matchup for Justin Herbert and the LA offense, but it's not quite as good as it looks. Herbert will be playing without his top two targets in wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, while star running back Austin Ekeler will likely be questionable for this game. New York is more than good enough on defense to hold down this weakened version of the Chargers.
Why The Chargers Could Cover The Spread
Despite their absences on the offensive side of the ball, the Chargers should be able to function on offense here. New York has had trouble rushing opposing passers all season long, which should help negate the loss of Williams and Allen. The Giants have also been horrible at defending against the run. Head coach Joe Judge's squad gives up 127 rushing yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry, numbers that are only slightly better than the Chargers' own numbers against the run.
The Chargers aren't the only team that's been hammered by injuries. New York will likely enter this game without wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney, cornerback Adoree Jackson, and quarterback Daniel Jones. Backup signal-caller Mike Glennon is also injured, so it's entirely possible that third-string quarterback Jake Fromm starts this contest.
Final Giants-Chargers Prediction & Pick
It's impossible to trust the Giants here. Their quarterback situation is uncertain at best, and their injuries are debilitating. Take the Chargers here.
Final Giants-Chargers Pick: Los Angeles Chargers: -9 (-110)
