The Vikings head south to Kansas City as they'll take on the Chiefs in the final week of the preseason. It’s time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Vikings-Chiefs prediction and pick.
This is another matchup of 2-0 vs. 0-2 teams, but neither team has excelled on the offensive side of the football. In their two victories, the Chiefs have scored 19 and 17 points. Meanwhile, the Vikings have managed outputs of just 6 and 10 points in their two preseason contests. This should be a low-scoring game and no side has a clear winner. Such is life in the preseason.
Here’s how the bookmakers have set the Vikings-Chiefs odds for Friday's matchup.
NFL Odds: Vikings-Chiefs Odds
Minnesota Vikings +4 (-103)
Kansas City Chiefs -4 (-117)
Over 38 1/2 points (-110)
Under 38 1/2 points (-110)

Although Patrick Mahomes got a surprising 18 snaps in last week's win, he wasn't the only quarterback to play well. In fact, the Chiefs used three other quarterbacks in the game. Shane Buechele went 9-for-11 with a touchdown, Chad Henne went 6-for-8 with a touchdown, and Anthony Gordon went a perfect 7-for-7. Assuming the star quarterback Mahomes does not see the field in the preseason finale, this trio of quarterbacks demonstrated enough good play last week to show that they can handle a dynamic Chiefs offense. While Week 3 of the preseason will feature mostly backups working hard to grab a roster spot, expect the likes of Gordon and Buechele to put in one last dominant effort before they return to the bench (or the practice squad, or maybe cut from the roster). This in crunch time for these players. They'll make the most of this opportunity. The Chiefs are just one of those teams that seemingly wins no matter the month, no matter the venue.
Why The Vikings Could Cover
The key word here is cover. While the Vikings have played awfully this preseason, I think they're decent enough to stay within a four point spread. Jake Browning and Kellen Mond can't play much worse than they did last week. Plus, each is fighting for the backup job and will want to put their best foot forward in this last game of the preseason. If the Chiefs defense can hold a team of Kansas City backups to just a couple of scores, then expect a similar score to last week's 12-10 Vikings loss. But hey, it would still mean a cover for Minnesota.
Final Vikings-Chiefs Prediction & Pick
This will be an overall ugly game, and honestly my best bet here is the under 38 1/2 points. But when picking games, I always prefer to go with a side. So the Chiefs -4 are the easy pick here. Minnesota hasn't done enough this preseason to prove otherwise to me. Chiefs win by at least a touchdown. They're one of the best NFL teams for a reason.
FINAL PICK: Chiefs -4 (-117)
