The Kansas City Royals host the San Diego Padres for the series finale on Sunday. Join us for our MLB odds series with a Padres-Royals prediction and pick.

The Padres found a way to win Game 1 of the series thanks to an 11-hit inning, breaking the franchise record for most hits in a single inning. San Diego scored nine runs in that inning to propel them to an 11-8 win. The Friars are now (31-29) on the year as they take on the Royals for Game 2 on Saturday evening.

Things are looking bright for the Padres, however, they just had to insert Joe Musgrove and Yu Darvish on the 15-day IL. If the Padres want to keep pace in the NL West, they will need other starters to step up. Don't be surprised if A.J. Preller trades for one.

The Royals continue to play high-level baseball. KC was down 11-3 and came back to lose by just three runs in the opener. Despite losing, they showed that they can be a dangerous opponent to anyone. If they win Game 2 of the series, then they will have a chance to win the series on Sunday afternoon. KC is currently (35-24).

Why The Padres Will Cover The Spread/Win

Note: All Statistics are prior to Saturday

Michael King starts for the Friars. He enters the weekend (4-4) on the year with a 4.09 ERA. The right-hander is also 15th in the league in strikeouts with 74 on the year and possesses a respectable WHIP of 1.27. This will be the first start for King against an American League opponent this season. He last started against the Miami Marlins in the 2-1 win in which he pitched 5.0 innings allowing three hits and one run. In his last four starts, King has K'd up 31 batters. A quality start from King in this outing gives SD a good chance to cover this underdog spread.

The lineup of Luis Arraez, Fernando Tatis Jr., Jurickson Profar, Jake Cronenworth, and Manny Machado is starting to find its groove. The Friars currently lead the MLB with a team batting average of .259, tied with the Milwaukee Brewers. Arraez currently leads the league in batting average at .342 and is batting an insane .398 with the Friars. Profar is right behind him as he has the second-highest batting average in the league at .330. Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani are tied for 3rd batting .326 on the year.

This Padres lineup has a chance to do damage in the coming weeks and considering they scored 11 in the opener, they have a chance to do it again on Sunday evening. However, they do not hit lefties very well, batting just .225 on the year as a team.

Why The Royals Will Cover The Spread/Win

Note: All Statistics are prior to Saturday

Cole Ragans gets the nod for the Royals in the finale. He is also (4-4) on the campaign with a 3.49 ERA in 67 innings. Ragans is 6th in the league in strikeouts with 83 and has a WHIP of 1.21. Ragans had two straight starts against the Oakland A's and Detroit Tigers going 13 scoreless innings. In his last start, he allowed two runs to the Minnesota Twins which resulted in a 4-2 loss. This start against SD will be the third start against an NL opponent this year. He has pitched well against NL opponents allowing just two runs in 12 innings while striking out 16.

Bobby Witt Jr. can do it all. He is the next superstar of the league and is currently FanDuel's 3rd favorite for the AL MVP behind Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Only Captain Salvador Perez has a higher batting average on the team but Witt leads the Royals with 31 extra-base hits, 42 RBIs, 129 total bases, .549 SLG, .917 OPS, and 3.7 WAR. Salvy leads with 10 homers and his .321 average. Those two form a dangerous duo that can do damage to any pitcher. Vinny Pasquantino will take on his friend in Michael King on Sunday, coming off a solid stretch at the plate.

The Royals are 7th in team batting average, 7th in steals, and 7th in team OPS.
