Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds have a chance to make a lot of contact in this game. They are facing a left-handed pitcher in Ty Blach. Blach has an xBA of .299, an average fastball velocity of 89.1, a whiff percentage of 13.5, and a strikeout percentage of 12. all of those are below the fifth percentile in the MLB. The Reds should be able to put bat to ball in this game, and that will work to their advantage, especially at Coors Field. If the Reds offense can get hot, and make some loud contact in the air, they should be able to put up plenty of runs in this game.

The Reds have won six of their last 10 games, and they are batting .243 with 24 extra base hits in that span. The Reds have walked almost five times a game in that span, as well, so they are patient at the plate. Their offense is young, but it is dangerous if they get hot. Expect plenty of pitches to hit in the zone in this game, and expect the Reds to really take advantage of that. If the Reds can have a good offensive day, they will win this game with ease.

Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win

Colorado needs their offense to come alive in this game. Montas has a 4.60 ERA on the year, and his ERA on the road is over 6.00. Along with his ERA, Montas has a 1.40 WHIP, and he is not doing a great job striking batters out. In their last 10 games, the Rockies are batting over .250 with 28 extra base hits. They are hitting the ball considerably well, and Montas is a hittable pitcher. If the Rockies can keep hitting the ball well, they should be able to put up some runs in this game and pull of a win.

Blach is a hittable pitcher, but he is much better at home. In six appearances and four starts at Coors Field this season, Blach has a 3.25 ERA, and a WHIP just over 1.00. He does not have many strikeouts, but he is doing a great job limiting runs, and keeping opponents off the barrel in Colorado. The Rockies need him to keep pitching well at home in this game. Blach does not have an easy task, but he seems to enjoy throwing at home, and the Rockies have to take advantage of that.

Final Reds-Rockies Prediction & Pick

All signs point towards this game being high scoring. The two teams have pitchers that are prone to runs throwing in this game. Although the over is a good bet, I am going to take the Reds to win this game straight up. They are playing some decent baseball right now, and I expect that to continue.
