The Reds make the trip to Denver to face the Rockies! These two teams have both had their fair share of struggles this season. The Reds come in on a winning streak, while the Rockies come in on a losing streak. Our MLB odds series has our Reds-Rockies prediction, odds, and pick for Wednesday.

The Reds have struggled to start the season and have a 27-33 record. They come into the game-winning two straight and three out of their last four games. The Reds have struggled to get going behind the plate, ranking as one of the worst teams. Their pitching has been better and is in the middle of the league's pack. Spencer Steer, Elly De La Cruz, Will Benson, Jeimer Candelario, and Jake Fraley have been standouts in a struggling offense this season. Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, and Nick Lodolo have all been at varying levels of good for the Reds on the mound. The Reds have had their fair share of struggles, but they are playing better recently.

The Rockies are one of the worst teams in the MLB this season. They are 21-38 this season and have lost three straight games heading into this game, including the first game in this series. Their bats have been excellent this season as a top-10 unit, but they have the worst pitching staff in the MLB. Brendan Rodgers, Ryan McMahon, Ezequiel Tovar, Brenton Doyle, and Elias Diaz have all been solid for the Rockies behind the plate. Cal Quantrill and Austin Gomber have been okay at best for a unit that has struggled this season. The Rockies' offense has improved, but their pitching has been terrible and is a massive reason why they have struggled so much this year.

Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds are starting Graham Ashcraft on the mound where he has a 4-2 record, a 4.76 ERA, and a 1.45 WHIP. Through 58.2 innings, he has allowed 36 runs on 64 hits with 21 walks and 47 strikeouts up to this point in the season. In his 11 starts, the Reds are 5-6 this season. In his most recent start, he pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in a Reds win. Ashcraft has struggled for the Reds and it does not get any easier against a Rockies offense that has been solid this season.

The Reds have struggled across the board behind the plate this season. They are ranked near the last in batting average at .224 after they finished with a .249 batting average just one season ago. Elly De La Cruz leads the way in most batting categories next to Spencer Steer and Jonathan India. Steer leads the way in batting average at .243 and RBI at 37. De La Cruz leads the way in home runs at nine and in total hits at 51. Finally, India leads the way in OBP at .355. This offense has struggled, but they get a favorable matchup against Dakota Hudson and how much he has struggled for the Rockies on the mound.

Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Rockies are starting Dakota Hudson on the mound. He has started the year with a 2-7 record, a 5.02 ERA, and a 1.48 WHIP. He has allowed 36 runs on 56 hits with 29 walks and 31 strikeouts through 57.1 innings. The Rockies are only 3-8 in his 11 starts this season. In his last start, he pitched seven innings and allowed one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in a Rockies win. Hudson has struggled and is a big reason why the Rockies have struggled so much on the mound this year.

The Rockies' offense has been a bright spot, especially recently. They are 10th in team batting average at .247 after finishing last season at .249. The offense is led by Ryan McMahon and Ezequiel Tovar. McMahon leads the way in home runs at 10, in RBI at 34, and in OBP at .371. Tovar then leads the way in batting average at .295 and in total hits at 72. This offense has a favorable matchup against Ashcraft with how much he has struggled this season.

Final Reds-Rockies Prediction & Pick

Neither team has played well this season. The Reds come in with more momentum winning two straight, while the Rockies have lost three straight. Ashcraft is slightly better than Hudson at pitcher, but the Rockies have the better offense. This is going to be a very close game, and the Rockies should keep it close and cover the spread thanks to the game being at home and having a solid offense.
