The Colorado Rockies continue their road trip in Oakland for Game 2 of this series as they look to build on their recent momentum prior to getting swept in their series against the San Francisco Giants where they have wins in seven out of their last 10 games in this Wednesday night matchup at the Oakland Coliseum against the Athletics. So let's check out our MLB odds series, which includes our Rockies-Athletics prediction and pick.
Colorado Rockies while being tied with the Marlins for the worst record in the majors, they have made some major strides as of late. Their starting pitching has been their fault early in the season but has been the backbone during their current resurgence, well at least before the Giants came to town. The Rockies will be looking to get back to their winning ways before their Giants series when they continue their road trip on the West Coast when they take on the Oakland Athletics.
Oakland Athletics has had some early season success which was very surprising but reality has finally set in as they have been struggling mightily over their last 10 games. Not only has their pitching not been able to keep them in the game but their bats have been ice-cold just scoring 2.6 runs per game over their last 10 games. The Athletics will need a collective effort to change the season around when they play host to the visiting Colorado Rockies in this Wednesday night matchup.

Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win
Don't let the record fool you, the Colorado Rockies are playing their best baseball right now. After recording just 15 wins during their first 31 games of the season they have strung together seven wins in their last 10 games. Even though they were swept by the Giants in their last season, they still are coming in much better shape than their counterparts the Oakland Athletics who are struggling on a monumental level.
The Rockies will send Austin Gomber to the mound in Game 2 of this series who has seemed to be the Rockies' most successful starting pitcher out of the bunch regardless of his 1-2 record. In Gomber's last five starts, he has only an ERA of 1.20 while only giving up 1 run on 11 hits in his last 3 games against the Padres, Rangers, and Pirates. Now, he gets a favorable against an Athletics lineup that has had a hard time producing any runs lately. Also, the Athletics have the third-worst batting average against left-handed pitching batting a measly .208 while striking out the 8th most against left-handed pitching.
Austin Gomber should have himself a game against this bottom-of-the-barrel Athletics offense, so it will be up to the Rockies to give him the run support that he needs to get the job done on Wednesday night.
Why The Athletics Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Oakland Athletics are currently on a free fall after starting the season exceeding the expectations from a team that was on its way out of Oakland having their fans looking to jump ship. However, they started the season 16-17 coming into May 5th but since May 5th they are just 2-13. The Athletics will hope a matchup with the Rockies will help get them back to their winning ways when they host them in Game 2 of this interleague series.
The Athletics will send Joey Estes (1-1, 9.35 ERA) to the mound who was hit hard in his second start this season after being recalled from Triple-A just one week prior. He just lasted 3.2 innings giving up 8 runs on 8 hits and 1 home run with 4 strikeouts. This rough outing came after a very strong showing in his first start this season where he limited the Seattle Mariners to just one solo shot and 2 hits with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. Luckily for Estes, he gets to pitch against the Rockies at home and not at Coors Field which would've been a disaster as he is a fly ball pitcher.
The Athletics will need to do a better job at putting the ball in play when they face off against Austin Gomber who gives up contact to opposing batters and if they can do that while Estes keeps the Rockies in check they could get back on track in this Wednesday night matchup.
Final Rockies-Athletics Prediction & Pick
These two teams are at the end of the standings in both of their respective divisions. While the Rockies have been downright terrible they still have the means to get the job done in this matchup against another awful team the Oakland Athletics. If Austin Gomber can continue to pitch the way he has been against this Athletics team that has been struggling to put up runs, expect the Rockies to continue their torrid play in the month of May and get themselves back into the thick of things.
