Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians
Ryan Yarbrough and Logan Allen will face off on Monday night in a matchup of two of the best starting pitchers in the American League. Both pitchers are known for their ability to keep the ball in the park, and I believe they will both be able to keep the first inning scoreless.
Yarbrough is coming off a strong start against the Tigers, where he allowed just three runs in 5.2 innings. He also has given up only nine runs in his last two games since coming off the disabled list and the four games in the minors prior to getting the call-up once he was healthy. The Royals have not been very good offensively lately, and they are averaging just 3.4 runs per game in their last 10 games.
Allen is also coming off a strong start, where he gave up no runs with just one hit and eight strikeouts in five innings pitched against the Pirates. He has been dominant over his last three starts giving up no runs, just six hits with 18 strikeouts in 12.2 innings pitched. The Guardians have been a bit better offensively than the Royals, but they are still averaging just 4.2 runs per game in their last 10 games.
I believe both pitchers will be able to keep the first inning scoreless. Yarbrough has been very as of late, and the Royals have not been very good offensively lately. Allen is also coming off a strong start, and the Guardians have not been as good offensively as they were earlier in the season.
San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers
Ross Stripling and Tarik Skubal will face off on Monday afternoon. Both pitchers are known for their ability to limit their opponent's bats, and I believe they will both be able to keep the first inning scoreless.
Stripling is coming off a start against the Reds, where he allowed just three runs in six innings on just four hits. He has been better on the road than he has been at home this season, with a 4.60 ERA. The Giants have not been very good offensively lately, and they are averaging just 3.5 runs per game in their last 10 games. Stripling has given up a run in the first inning twice in his last five games showing that he is able to limit batters in the early going of his starts.
Skubal is also coming off the worst start of his season so far, where he allowed just seven runs in four innings against the Kansas City Royals. Prior to that game, he hadn't let a single run on the board and just two hits in two home games against the Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics. He has been very good at home this season, having given up a single run and only two hits in his first two games off the disabled list. The Tigers have been a bit better offensively than the Giants, but they are still averaging just 4.3 runs per game in their last 10 games.
I believe both pitchers will be able to keep the first inning scoreless. Stripling has been very good on the road, and the Giants have not been very good offensively lately. Skubal while coming off a bad start against the Royals has the ability to shut down a stagnant Giants lineup that hasn't been producing many runs, and the Tigers have not been as good offensively as they were earlier in the season just scoring 16 runs in their last five games which is good for just 3.1 runs per game. As long as Stripling and Skubal do what they do best and limit runs early in this contest there should easily be no runs scored in the first inning.
