The Kansas City Royals take on the Seattle Mariners. Our MLB odds series has our Royals Mariners prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Royals Mariners.

The Kansas City Royals continue to offer every indication that they are now a good baseball team. The weeks go by and the Royals remain several games above .500. Through more than one-fourth of their season — 42 games — the Royals are 25-17. If the season ended today, the Royals would be a playoff team. Not only that, but the Royals have a cushion of a few games in the race for a playoff spot. If they can continue on their current trajectory, they will win over 95 games. That should comfortably get them into October, assuming they can maintain this rate of wins and losses. No one is predicting the Royals will hold up over 162 games. Usually, a young team will run into a major speedbump, and when that speedbump arrives, Kansas City will be truly tested. However, it is very impressive that through one and a half months of baseball, Kansas City has looked the part of a playoff team and has not been knocked off course. The Royals don't look like a fluke, but the challenge will be for these young and evolving players to retain consistency and not get demoralized if a slump occurs.

The Seattle Mariners are just 22-19 through 41 games. They are a few games worse than the Royals in mid-May, something few people predicted before the start of the season. The Mariners haven't been bad, but they haven't been particularly strong, either. The best news for the M's is that the defending champion Texas Rangers have struggled so far this season. Texas just got swept by the Colorado Rockies, one of the worst teams in baseball. Seattle is half a game ahead of the Rangers in the American League West. That's a stroke of good fortune. Being realistic, however, the Rangers are going to play better at some point, so the Mariners need to take advantage now, not later, of Texas's rocky start to the 2024 campaign.

Why The Royals Could Cover The Spread

The Royals look like the real deal — maybe not a pennant contender, but certainly a playoff-worthy team. They made real investments in pitching in the offseason and have some young, talented pitchers from previous seasons who can take the ball and go six or seven innings and minimize exposure to the bullpen. Kansas City just won three of four in Anaheim against the Angels. A West Coast road trip doesn't seem to be eroding this team's focus. The Royals are becoming a team bettors can trust.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners' pitching will always keep them competitive in games. Their offense can wobble, but as the past weekend shows, when the Mariners score at least five runs in a game, they usually win. They won two of three against the Oakland A's with an offense that scored at least five runs in their two wins. The M's have the ingredients of a good team. They just need to show them a little more often. Kansas City is flying from California without a day off for this game. Seattle will be rested, and that should pay off for the Mariners.

Final Royals-Mariners Prediction & Pick

The Royals are playing well, but Seattle's pitching is hard to ignore. Stay away from this game.
