The Chicago Sky take on the Dallas Wings. Our WNBA odds series has our Sky Wings prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sky Wings.

The WNBA continues its set of season-opening games on Wednesday. Four more teams start their campaigns after eight teams began the new season on Tuesday. This is the first of the two Wednesday contests, featuring two teams with different sets of expectations, at least at the start of the season.

The Chicago Sky might have long-term upside because they were able to pick both Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso, two bona fide women's college basketball superstars, in the 2024 WNBA draft one month ago. Reese and Cardoso battled each other in the SEC when LSU tried to topple eventual national champion South Carolina. Now they are teammates. However, Cardoso is out with an injury for several weeks. That and other injuries are likely to limit what the Sky can do in the first month of the season. This group might evolve in the summer, toward the end of the season, but right now, Chicago is shorthanded.

The Dallas Wings were one of just four WNBA teams to finish with a winning regular-season record in 2023. Dallas wasn't especially close to the top two teams in the league, WNBA finalists New York (runner-up) and Las Vegas (champion), but it was better than eight of the league's 12 teams. Dallas joined the top three — New York, Vegas, and the Connecticut Sun — in the WNBA semifinals. Questions remain about Dallas's ability to take the next step and rise in the league, but the minimum expectation will be to return to the semifinal round of the playoffs and at least get a chance at taking down one of the league's heavyweights in the postseason.

Why The Sky Could Cover The Spread

The WNBA season began on Tuesday with underdogs doing well relative to the spread against favorites. Point-spread underdogs covered in three of the four games, with the Washington Mystics covering versus the New York Liberty, the Phoenix Mercury covering against the Las Vegas Aces, and the Minnesota Lynx winning outright as a road underdog against the Seattle Storm. The only point-spread favorite to cover was the Connecticut Sun against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Early-season rust from favored teams could be a recurring theme in these first few games of the season. Dallas is universally viewed as a better team than Chicago, but that might not fully materialize in this game.

Why The Wings Could Cover The Spread

The injury to Chicago's Kamila Cardoso is a significant one. Not having a top-tier draft pick deprives the Sky of an energetic, productive, tenacious two-way player who — as shown by her excellence at South Carolina under Dawn Staley — is a terrific defender and rebounder who reduces responsibilities for her teammates. Chicago is simply a limited team. You're unlikely to see the best of the Sky right now. That should be enough for Dallas to cover.

Final Sky-Wings Prediction & Pick

This is a game to stay away from. Chicago is shorthanded, but we don't know if Dallas is ready to take the next step as a team this season. Maybe wait for a live in-game play.
