The Connecticut Sun take on the Chicago Sky. Our WNBA odds series has our Sun Sky prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sun Sky.
The Connecticut Sun have the best record in the WNBA. The Sun were a top-three team in 2023. They're still a top-three team, and they have the record to prove it. However, with the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx playing elite basketball right now, a lot of basketball analysts will tell you that “best record” and “best team” are not the same thing, and that the Sun are probably behind the Liberty and Lynx as a WNBA championship contender. We can debate that all summer long — and WNBA watchers probably will — but that point aside, the Sun are enjoying a very strong season which is putting them in a very good position for the playoffs.
The Sun lost to the Liberty this past Saturday at home. Skeptics of the Sun will note that the Liberty really took over in the fourth quarter and showed that they have a higher ceiling. Those inclined to cut the Sun some slack will note this was the first — and to this point, only — loss of the season for Connecticut, hardly reason to become uniquely or profoundly alarmed about this team's status. The Sun turned around after that Saturday loss and crushed the Indiana Fever on Monday night in a game they led by 20 points at halftime. If anyone was concerned about how that loss to the Liberty might affect the Sun's confidence, Monday showed this team has no problem bouncing back and responding the right way to a pinch of adversity.
The Chicago Sky are a team with high-effort players who don't finish enough plays. This team has good defensive players and rebounders, but it struggles to put the ball in the basket. Chicago had good offensive performances in the first two weeks of the season but has regressed since then. Seven of the 12 teams in the WNBA score an average of at least 80 points per game. The Sky are one of the five teams averaging under 79 points, and that's in spite of their fast start to the season. Chicago averaged 82 points in its first four games but has averaged in the mid-70s in the last six games. Chicago has to be able to score 80 points per game to give itself a decent chance of winning, but the Sky aren't consistently hitting that target at the moment.

Why The Sun Could Cover The Spread
Connecticut has the best record in the WNBA. The Sun win consistently. Their only loss was to a New York Liberty team which, in terms of raw talent and current form, could be viewed as the best team in the league and the favorite to win the WNBA championship later this summer. Connecticut is a team which beats the teams it is supposed to beat. The Sun are good at taking care of inferior opposition and not being complacent against weaker opponents.
The Chicago Sky have the makings of a potentially good team, but you can see it's not all coming together. Angel Reese provides quality defense and rebouning. Kamilla Cardoso is another high-profile rookie who gives this team effort and intensity. The Sky are not an easy opponent to play, but they're also an opponent which will leave the door open by not maximizing its offensive opportunities. Connecticut has proven, established players such as DeWanna Bonner, Alyssa Thomas, and Brionna Jones who understand how to be effective at both ends of the floor. Chicago might be a team of the future, but Connecticut is a team of the present moment.
Why The Sky Could Cover The Spread
The point spread for this game is seven points. The Sun are very likely to win straight up, but Chicago does compete well and merits a certain degree of trust in terms of keeping the game close enough to cover.
Final Sun-Sky Prediction & Pick
Connecticut is better, but Chicago will put up a fight. Our recommendation: Pass. Wait for a live play.
Final Sun-Sky Prediction & Pick: Sky +7
