Why The Tigers Will Cover The Spread/Win
For starters, the dominating element that Detroit has used to take advantage of Texas has been in the form of their dynamic pitching staff. Throughout the first two outings of this early June series, it's been the Tigers that have surrendered a mere two runs in 18 innings of action. Whether it's been in the form of some quality starts from the starting staff and closing the door with the bullpen, Detroit has simply put on a show from the mound in this series.
When taking a closer look at the season-long numbers, it has been the Tigers who have pitched to the beat of a 3.74 ERA as a team and are also tied with the sixth-most quality starts at 29 total. At the end of the day, Kenta Maeda and company could be in for a swell day against the rather inconsistent Texas offense.
Moreover, don't be shocked if third-baseman Matt Vierling continues to be a pest for opposing pitchers. With a supreme .287 slash-mark next to his name, Vierling is a name that Texas must take supreme caution in. Before anyone can blink, it may end up being the 27-year-old right-handed hitter that makes the Rangers pay after punishing a mistake pitch in the zone.
Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win
Is it officially time to hit the panic button for the defending world champions? It's beginning to look like it, but until we can bury Texas for good, it would be unwise to count them out.
Indeed, it all begins with a strong start in all aspects to begin the game. Not only will it prove to be more than helpful to have the home crowd giving them energy that they so desperately need, but the Rangers are also due to give the fans something to cheer about. Surprisingly enough, the Rangers currently own a losing record at Globe Life Field after amassing a commanding 50-31 record while playing on their home turf. At some point, enough will be enough for these Rangers as continuing to lose within the confines of their home ballpark is simply unacceptable. With some added motivation following a pair of losses to the Tigers that have been tough to follow, expect Texas to remain sharp out on the diamond.
If all else fails, look no further than other hitters not named Corey Seager to get hot at the plate. For Seager, the slugging shortstop already has 13 home runs under his belt and also leads the team with his .269 batting average. More than likely, Seager will be on his A game for this one, but finding success in covering the spread may end up falling on the shoulders of the rest of this lineup and their bats.
Final Tigers-Rangers Prediction & Pick
Despite the Rangers not even coming close to replicating their World Series winning ways from a year ago so far this series and for the entirety of the season for that matter, it still is extremely difficult to sweep a team. However, Texas' offense has gone ice cold and there is nothing that they have shown that makes them trustworthy at this point in time. Bring out the brooms and take Detroit to cover and sweep Texas on Wednesday evening.
