The Yankees make the trip to Los Angeles to face the Angels! These two teams are playing very differently with the Yankees being one of the best teams in the MLB, while the Angels have struggled at times as one of the worst teams. Our MLB odds series has our Yankees-Angels prediction, odds, and pick for Thursday.
The Yankees have been playing very well with a 37-19 record, but have lost two straight, including the first game in this series. They are in a battle to stay atop the AL. Their bats have been great and their pitching is the best in the league. The Yankees have been great across the board this season. Juan Soto is a huge difference maker to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of great on the mound. The Yankees have been great and they get a favorable matchup against the Angels in this game and series.
The Angels have been inconsistent and have had issues this season on their way to a 21-33 record. They also broke a three-game losing streak with a win in their most recent game. The offense has been a bright spot, ranking just outside the top 10 with their bats behind the plate. Their pitching has struggled in comparison and is one of the worst in the league. Taylor Ward, Zach Neto, Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon have tried to lead a middling offense. On the mound, Tyler Anderson and Jose Soriano have played well for a unit that has been filled with struggles so far this year. The Angels have struggled and have not been able to find much consistency at all this season.

Article Continues BelowWhy The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Yankees are starting Carlos Rodon on the mound where he has a 6-2 record, a 2.95 ERA, and a 1.18 WHIP. Rodn has allowed 21 runs on 53 hits with 19 walks and 57 strikeouts through 61 innings. He has started in 11 games and the Yankees have gone 8-3 in those games. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed zero runs and five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in a Yankees win. This is a favorable matchup for Rodon because he has been very good for the Yankees on the mound and the Angels have been inconsistent behind the plate at times.
The biggest key for the Yankees is their offense. They are ranked second in the MLB currently in team batting average at .257 and that was after struggling last season to a .227 batting average. 13 Yankees have hit at least one home run this season and it has made a massive difference. Juan Soto has been the key, leading the way in most batting categories next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .312, in RBI at 46, in OBP at .408, and in total hits at 67. Judge then leads the way in home runs at 17 so far this season. This will be a favorable matchup because Patrick Sandoval has had his fair share of struggles this season and it does not get any easier against the Yankees and their offense.
Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Angels are starting Patrick Sandoval on the mound where he has a 2-7 record, a 5.60 ERA, and a 1.55 WHIP. He has allowed 38 runs on 61 hits with 24 walks and 57 strikeouts through 54.2 innings. The Angels are also 3-8 in the 11 games that he's appeared in, so far this season. In his last start, he pitched 3.2 innings and allowed eight runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in a loss. Patrick Sandoval has struggled for the Angels in a pitching staff marred by issues and this matchup does not help him much against the Yankees.
The Angels' offense has been much better than expected this season without Shohei Ohtani. They are 11th in team batting average at .245 after finishing last season with a .254 batting average. The offense is led by Taylor Ward in most of the important batting categories. Ward leads the way in batting average at .273, in home runs at 11, RBI at 34, in OBP at .329, and in total hits at 56. This is a tough matchup with how hot the Yankees have been on the mound with Carlos Rodon and others.
Final Yankees-Angels Prediction & Pick
The Yankees are the better team with all of the struggles that the Angels have dealt with. Rodon has the advantage on the mound compared to Sandoval and the Yankees also have the more reliable offense. Expect the Yankees to have an easy game in this spot on the road and win and cover against the Angels.
