Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees came into the season with many question marks, even after acquiring Juan Soto in a trade. Yet, for the first time in a while, they have lived up to the hype and are currently the best team in the American League, only behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the best record in baseball.

Part of this has been due to an amazing offense. Ultimately, this offense has actually lived up to the name “Bronx Bombers.” In fact, they came Sunday's action ranking second in home runs. But they are doing a lot more than just clobbering home runs. The Yanks are also finding other ways to score. Significantly, they are fifth in batting average, second in on-base percentage, third in runs, and second in slugging percentage. They are finding ways to score from top to bottom.

Anthony Volpe leads the top of the lineup. Now, he hopes to lead the charge again against a team that he has hit .313 with five hits and two runs over six career games. Soto is currently injured after announcing he has been dealing with arm discomfort for a few weeks. Therefore, there is a chance he does not play in this game. If Soto does play, he will come in hitting .310 with one home run, four RBIs, and five runs over eight games against the Royals in his career.

Aaron Judge feels invigorated this season after dealing with numerous injuries last season. Now, he looks to continue his hot season as he comes in batting .310 with 36 hits, 12 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 25 runs over 31 career games against the Royals. Giancarlo Stanton is another power threat and hopes to clobber the baseball. Currently, he is hitting .284 with 23 hits, four home runs, 10 RBIs, and 11 runs over 20 games against the Royals.

The Yankees have also thrived because of an amazing pitching staff. In fact, they are the best team in the majors in pitching and also have the best bullpen in baseball.

The Yankees will cover the spread if they can continue clobbering the baseball and solve Lugo. Then, they need Rodon to find his location and make good pitches.

Why The Royals Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Royals have emerged as a contender this season despite no one believing they had any chance. This has been largely thanks to an amazing offense that has come alive.

The offense is fifth in batting average, ninth in on-base percentage, fourth in runs, and fifth in slugging percentage. Ultimately, the only thing that has lacked a little has been their power, as the Royals rank 14th in home runs.

Bobby Witt Jr. has emerged as one of the best players in baseball. After going through the normal growing pains in his first two seasons, he has finally put it all together. Witt is batting .322 with 11 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 56 runs. Furthermore, he has done well against the Yankees, hitting .316 with 12 hits, one home run, three RBIs, and three runs over 10 games against the Yanks.

Salvador Perez Jr. is aging. Yet, he has also had a bounce-back season. Perez is batting .304 with 10 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 25 runs. Also, he is hitting .242 with 55 hits, 15 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 21 runs over 61 career games against the Yankees.

The pitching staff has been solid so far this season. Kansas City will need Lugo to do well and for the bullpen to avoid making mistakes across the heart of the plate.

The Royals will cover the spread if they can clobber the baseball and figure out Rodon. Then, they will need to avoid giving Judge opportunities to hurt them.

Final Yankees-Royals Prediction & Pick

The Yankees went 4-2 against the Royals last season. But the Royals covered the spread in three of them. In fact, the Royals won two of three games at Kauffman Stadium. Lugo is the better pitcher in this situation. Furthermore, he has done well against the Bronx Bombers, going 4-1 with a 2.53 ERA over 12 games against them in his career. Expect the Royals to rise to the occasion and find a way to upset the best team in the AL.
