Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees have been one of the best teams in the MLB with a 46-21 record. They are neck and neck with the Phillies as the best team in the league. They just recently broke a two-game losing streak as well. Their bats have been great and their pitching is the best in the league. The Yankees have been great across the board this season. Juan Soto is a huge difference maker and an MVP-caliber player who was added to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of good to great on the mound.

The Yankees are starting Marcus Stroman at pitcher where he has a 5-2 record, a 3.04 ERA, and a 1.24 WHIP. Stroman has allowed 29 runs on 61 hits with 31 walks and 57 strikeouts through 74 innings. He has started in 13 games and the Yankees have gone 9-4 in those games. Stroman is one of the best pitchers in a deep rotation for the Yankees. This will be a difficult matchup against the Royals and their red-hot offense of late.

The biggest key for the Yankees is their offense. They are ranked sixth in the MLB currently in team batting average at .254 which is a massive improvement after struggling to .227 last season. 13 total Yankees have hit at least one home run this season and it has made a huge difference. Juan Soto has been the biggest key player, leading the way in the batting categories next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .318 and in total hits at 76. Judge then leads the way in home runs at 24, in RBI at 59, and in OBP at .436. This offense has a challenge with Brady Singer on the mound and how well he has played up to this point in the season.

Why The Royals Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Royals have played well to start the year with a 39-27 record. Their pitching is a top-10 unit, while their batting has also been a top-10. Seth Lugo has made a potent pitching combination with Brady Singer, Alec Marsh, and Cole Ragans. Their bats have been red-hot recently. Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. have been the main standouts for the Royals behind the plate, but Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino have also played well. The Royals have been one of the bigger surprises this season.

The Royals are starting Brady Singer on the mound. He has a 4-2 record, a 2.76 ERA, and a 1.21 WHIP on the year up to this point. Through 65.1 innings, he has allowed 22 runs on 59 hits with 20 walks and 66 strikeouts. He has started in 12 games so far this season and the Royals are 9-3 in those games. Singer is one of the best for a Royals pitching staff that has been great this season.

The Royals offense has been red-hot after an initial slow start. They are seventh in team batting average at .254 after finishing last season with the same average. Their offensive output has been led by Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. in almost every batting category. Witt Jr. leads in batting average at .320, in home runs at 11, in RBI at 47, and in total hits at 85. Perez then leads the way in OBP at .372. The Royals are red-hot right now, but Stroman has been great for the Yankees and presents a tough challenge for the Royals at pitcher.

Final Yankees-Royals Prediction & Pick

The keys to this game are both pitchers in Stroman and Singer. The offensive difference is marginal because both are top 10 in the league. The Royals are the pick to cover and potentially win thanks to Singer and with the game at home. It is going to be close either way, so expect the Royals to cover at home.
