The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for what they hope will be another impressive season in 2022 and the team managed to add some intriguing pieces in the offseason. While Von Miller was their headline signing, the Bills also brought in veteran wideout Tavon Austin earlier this month, a former first-round pick who has floated around the league.

Although Austin is coming off a rather dismal campaign with the Jaguars, quarterback Josh Allen has been extremely impressed by what he's seen from the receiver, who is fully taking on a leadership role.

“When you have some of these young guys in here, they know Tavon Austin from his highlights on YouTube,” the Bills star said during his minicamp press conference. “I know that I watched those as a kid. As a kid growing up, his college highlights were unbelievable. So I know some of those receivers have so much respect for him already. So when he talks, they listen.”

“He’s only been here a couple of weeks, but even in walk-through, how attentive he is — he’s right behind me basically listening to the play call, jogging out, and standing behind someone in front of him going through the play,” Allen said. “You guys saw him in warm-ups, he’s behind the guys catching punts — he’s right there behind them doing all the drills and making it game-like reps. He’s trying to get those reps without actually getting them. So, again, his attention to detail has been awesome.”

If nothing else, Austin is serving as an experienced player for the Bills who can offer wisdom and advice to the young guns. Austin collected just 24 receptions for 213 yards and one touchdown in 2021 for the Jags and has played for four different teams since getting nabbed by the then St.Louis Rams in 2013.

His best year came in 2015 when he racked up more than 800 yards both in the air and on the ground. Tavon Austin will have the opportunity to make the 53-man roster and when he's opening the eyes of the cornerstone of the Bills organization in Josh fallen, it'll definitely help his case.
