The Buffalo Bills surprised the NFL world last year by finishing the season 6-10, which was much better than most thought they would. According to head coach Sean McDermott, however, the obvious thing to do in the offseason was to add to their offense.

Speaking to Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News, McDermott acknowledged that the offense needed to be revamped in order for the team to be more competitive.

“I think it's obvious that we've been trying to build our offense,” McDermott said (via Pro Football Talk). “Look, we have good pieces in our locker room. Let's not forget that. That’s A. B is, how can we improve our football team by going out there and trying to add guys with our DNA – in this case veteran players that have experience? We're going to add them to what we already have and continue to try and put a team together for this season.”

During the early hours of free agency, the Bills brought in a ton of offensive players, adding running back Frank Gore, wide receivers Cole Beasley and John Brown, tight end Tyler Kroft, and offensive linemen Mitch Morse, Jon Feliciano, and Ty Nsekhe. Couple that with the small number of weapons that the Bills already had, and the Bills look to be on the path to rebuilding their team.

Despite the additions, one move that likely got much more press was the near-acquisition of Antonio Brown. According to McDermott, that trade was just something the team was looking into.

“You always look. It doesn’t mean we pull the trigger,” McDermott said. “Somewhere in the process of looking, whether it’s early or late in the process, when you come across things that tell you it’s not going to work out for one reason or another, then you go on to the next one. But for us not to look would be, at times, ignorant. You hear things, but let’s do our due diligence and our research and make sure. At the end of the day, you see the end result of that due diligence…”

When the Bills weren’t able to land Brown, they decided to spend their money elsewhere, and the result is a glut of players that they hope will be able to keep them on the right track. After going 6-10 last year, the obvious hope is to improve on that, and with the AFC  Wild Card teams notoriously always fluctuating, it could be time for the Bills to return to the postseason.
