When the 2020 season ended for the Buffalo Bills, they were left wondering what pieces they needed to add to get past the AFC Championship in 2021.

On the flip side of that situation, the Philadelphia Eagles couldn't have ended their 2020 season soon enough. Rumors started to swirl early in the offseason of what the long term plans would be for some of their long tenured players. Doug Pederson was shown the door and Carson Wentz was traded to the Colts. The name of Zach Ertz has popped up plenty of times, too.

All offseason the Bills have been linked to Ertz. One report after another has stated that the two sides are “close to completing a deal,” and still nothing concrete has surfaced. Now, it's popping up again, this time via the Dan Sileo Show and Eagles play-by-play voice, Merrill Reese.

“The word today is that they are very close to a deal and I don’t have any inside information to substantiate this, but the word is that they’re close to a deal with Buffalo for Zach Ertz,” Reese told Sileo. “I believe you have as much chance of being on this roster as Zach Ertz in a few weeks.” – Merrill Reese on the Dan Sileo Show.

The Bills offense has plenty of weapons but adding someone like Ertz could surely put them over the top in 2021. But if it feels like Buffalo fans have read a piece about an Ertz trade being imminent dozens of times this offseason, it's probably because they have.

Time will tell whether or not Ertz indeeds lands with the Bills and even if he doesn't, at this point some will assume he had when his career is looked back upon.
