Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is one of the top guards in the league, but Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown still thinks he is one of the most underrated players in the NBA.
“I am and have been a massive fan of Damian Lillard,” said Brown, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “His ability…and he does fly under the radar…his ability to, and I think his defense has improved over time, but his ability to score in a bunch of different ways and his ability to just punish a game if you have a sliver of a mistake is Steph-like. He can do it with range, he can do it with speed, he can do something at the rim. I think he is one of the more underrated All-Stars we have in our league. I have tremendous respect for him.”
That is certainly very high praise from Brown, but it's hard to argue with him.
Lillard is one of the smoothest scorers in this league, and on the year, he is averaging 26.1 points, 6.4 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 35.3 minutes per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, 37 percent from three-point range and 90.7 percent from the free-throw line.
The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at little-known Weber State University, was originally selected by the Blazers with the sixth overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft.
Since then, Lillard has gone on to make four All-Star teams and is currently in the midst of averaging at least 25 points per game for four consecutive seasons.
