Blazers guard CJ McCollum reveals a painfully honest admission on being a father during the rampant effects of COVID-19 and the ongoing trade rumors around him.

The Blazers are experiencing quite a problematic season, failing to compete in the loaded Western Conference— sporting an 11-14 win-loss record and standing at 10th in the conference. Despite hiring a new head coach in Chauncey Billups, Portland can't win on the road, as they currently have a 1-10 record in that department.

With the lack of progress, many fans and personalities around the team are calling for changes, especially when it comes to trades and roster changes. McCollum, averaging a little over 20 points a game, is at the forefront of numerous trade rumors. These rumors stem from Damian Lillard's alleged desire to play with Sixers forward Ben Simmons.

Amid all these difficulties, McCollum seems to be focused on the task at hand with the Blazers.

“Try having a kid in the middle of COVID,” McCollum said before leaving the Moda Center. “That sh*t ain’t normal. Now, try having a kid during COVID amid trade rumors in the middle of the season. Yeah …”

“My wife is going to have a baby in the next week to four weeks, so that’s where my focus is right now,” McCollum said. “I try to play to the best of my ability with my job.”

With the current record of the Blazers, it is clear that the team as a whole must do more–all for competing against the league's toughest teams.

“I’m not here to make excuses. I’ve got to get better. We have to get better as a team.”

As 2022 nears, the Blazers might want to pick up the pace in molding the team's future. The question is, will McCollum still be part of Portland's blueprint?
