With the NBA draft and free agency rapidly approaching, the trade rumors are getting hot and heavier in the NBA. Now, it sounds like Damian Lillard will be officially added to the “disgruntled superstar” list and will request a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers.
According to Henry Abbott of TrueHoop.com, the Blazers' superstar guard will request a trade very soon:
Now a source close to Lillard says that in the days to come, he plans to request a trade.
If this is a surprise, you haven’t been paying attention. As an organization, the Blazers have been melting since their playoff exit. Coach Terry Stotts was cut loose. Sources say billionaire Jody Allen plans to sell the team. The Blazers are prominent in trade rumors.
This isn't a huge surprise as many have wondered what the next move for Dame would be. The Blazers had another disappointing playoff exit after being taken out in the first round by the Denver Nuggets, who were without star guard Jamal Murray. It appeared to be the perfect opportunity for Portland, who were coming into the postseason at near full strength and the Nuggets being without their lead guard. But it never quite came to fruition.
After Lillard scored a whopping 55 points on just 24 shots and 12 made 3s in a Game 5 loss, the thought started to creep into the minds of many that Lillard had given everything to the Blazers and would need a change of scenery.
While he has remained mostly quiet throughout the offseason, it sounds like he is about to voice his truth soon and request a trade from the Blazers. How this plays out going forward is anyone's guess. What appears to be true though is that Dame wants out in Portland, though we're still waiting on more confirmation.
