The depleted Portland Trail Blazers pulled off one of the most stunning wins of the regular season on Monday, beating Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets 114-108 at Moda Center for a second straight victory.

Playing without starting guards Damian Lillard (abdominal tendinopathy-injury management), C.J. McCollum (right lung pneuomthorax) and Norman Powell (health-and-safety protocols), the Blazers entered the game as 9.5-point underdogs. But behind tireless defensive effort and a well-balanced scoring attack, Portland overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to outlast a surefire title contender late.

Anfernee Simons continued his stellar play as the Blazers' lead ball handler despite struggling from long range, finishing with 23 points and a career-high 11 assists. Robert Covington was an absolute menace as a help defender, swiping three steals and blocking two shots. He scored a season-high 21 points, too, catching fire from deep in the second half. Ben McLemore, starting for the second straight game, hit a pair of massive threes late to keep the Nets at bay for six of his 20 points. Nassir Little and Jusuf Nurkic combined for 27 points while playing key roles defensively.

It was the first time this season that all five of Portland's starters scored in double-figures.

“I liked everything about that,” Chauncey Billups said on the postgame podium. “I just loved our fight. We competed so hard.”

Lillard liked what he saw, too, saving a special shoutout for Simons.

Spurred on by a relatively sparse yet raucous home crowd, the short-handed Blazers enjoyed a spirited celebration when the final buzzer sounded. No one was more excited than Covington, though, who let out a few primal yells near halfcourt while surrounded by his teammates.

After the game, team reporter Brooke Olzendam asked Covington to repeat the contents of his scream for a live television audience. Clearly, she wasn't prepared for the veteran forward's NSFW honesty.

“Great f***ing win,” Covington said, smiling. “Great f***ing win.”

The Nets played without James Harden on Monday, resting a sore left knee. Joe Harris is still out after undergoing surgery on his left ankle, and LaMarcus Aldridge was out, too. Irving played just his second game of the season, scoring 22 points on 21 shots. Steve Nash didn't have anywhere near a full roster at his disposal, and Brooklyn—on the second leg of a cross-country back-to-back—didn't exactly compete with consistent edge and intensity.

Still, none of those factors take away from a long-shot victory that's Portland's best of 2021-22. Now let's see if the Blazers, sans Lillard for entirety of their upcoming six-game road trip, can glean some much-needed momentum from their “great f***ing win.”
