When it comes to Portland Trail Blazers veteran small forward Evan Turner, one glimpse at his stats in his first two seasons with the team would not convince many people that he is nearly worth a four-year, $70 million contract. However, Turner knows his role with the team and has a stern message for his critics.

“First off, let me say one thing: Everything I have done, I have earned,’’ Turner said. “My contract – that’s my bread, and I earned my bread. So, kiss my ass. Dead serious. Write that. I earned that (expletive) money.’’

Turner said that in a very entertaining editorial written by Jason Quick of NBC Sports Northwest where he also talked about his experience with a Portland fan who continued to taunt him all season to the point where he thought it was borderline harassment. Turner finally had enough from the fan and really let him have it during a recent game at the Moda Center against the Sacramento Kings.

“When I turned around and cursed him out, he turned bright red,’’ Turner said chuckling.

Quick also said that Blazers head coach Terry Stotts thinks Turner is very indispensable for his skill as a defender and for his post moves, mid-range jumper, and passing abilities. For Turner, he wants to be known as a great team player on a winning team rather than a scorer on a team that continues to lose.

“All I’m doing is what my coach asks,’’ Turner said. “I’m trying to help the team, truly and genuinely help the team. Because I’ve been on teams where I’m putting up 20, and nobody gave a damn because we were losing.’’

Turner and his Blazers teammates will look for their 10th straight victory on Monday night when they host the Miami Heat.
