Skal Labissiere happy with Blazers’ signing of Anthony Tolliver
Portland Trail Blazers big man Skal Labissiere expressed his excitement over the opportunity to work with Anthony Tolliver again.
The Blazers agreed to a deal with Tolliver earlier this week, and no one is happier than Labissiere. The 23-year-old power forward said that Tolliver was his mentor during their time together in Sacramento. The two forwards played together during Labissiere’s rookie year in the 2016-17 NBA season.
“He was my vet when I was a rookie in Sac,” Labissiere said via Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports. “He’s a great guy, very consistent. He comes in every day and works really hard, that’s one of the things I got to pick up from him — how to be a professional. Even though he’s a vet, he’ll always come in and stay after practice and just put up a lot of shots.”
Tolliver also shared the same excitement, confirming that he had the conscious effort to take Labissiere under his wing during their stint with the Kings. The 34-year-old forward, who has played for 10 teams in the league, said that he is looking forward to continue mentoring Tolliver.
Labissiere, the 28th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, was traded to the Blazers last season. He appeared in nine games with Portland, posting 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds 7.0 minutes per contest.
