Blazers star Damian Lillard reacts to Neil Olshey’s firing
The Portland Trail Blazers fired former general manager Neil Olshey after reports of the toxic workplace he oversaw emerged. Blazer star Damian Lillard spoke to reporters and reacted to the firing of Olshey.
“I have a lot of thoughts, but ya know, in short, I always had a really good relationship with Neil. He drafted me and gave me the opportunity to have the career that I’ve had. Ya know, it’s been a great run, and it’s just an all-around unfortunate situation in the business that we work in.”
Lillard spoke about the good relationship the two had during their time together on the Blazers. Olshey is the one who drafted Lillard and gave him his NBA chance, so the star guard wasn’t about to publicly bash his former general manager.
Still, Lillard alluded to the fact that there are other things he feels in regard to the Blazers’ firing of Olshey. Olshey allegedly bullied, intimidated and cursed at employees, creating a toxic workplace during his time in the Portland front office. Multiple Blazers’ employees filed grievances.
Lillard is right that it is an unfortunate situation. And it’s perhaps a situation that has been heavy on the Blazers’ mind during their 11-12 start to the season. Maybe that’s what Lillard was alluding to when he said he had a lot of thoughts on the matter.
Hopefully, Damian Lillard and the Blazers can shift their focus from Neil Olshey’s firing to the season and the task at hand. The All-Star guard, who is expected to miss at least 10 days with an abdominal injury, will look to get back on the court as soon as possible to help Portland climb up the standings.
