The Atlanta Braves made a blockbuster MLB trade on Monday to bring first baseman Matt Olson to the organization, offloading a haul of top prospects to the Oakland Athletics. After the news of the trade broke, Olson spoke to reporters and broke down his emotions about leaving Oakland and joining a World Series contender.

“There was obviously a lot of noise about it… I knew there was the potential of something happening. I can't say enough about the A's organization… I've been here since 2012, so almost 1o years, pretty much my whole baseball career,” Olson said in a dugout interview via B/R Walk-Off. “It's bittersweet leaving, obviously I'm familiar with Atlanta, it's an amazing place, World Series Champs, my home town, so if there was one place to go, and leave here, that's the place to do it. So, I'm excited about it.” Olson said.

Olson didn't seem particularly surprised by the news that he'd been dealt to the Braves, but that doesn't mean he won't cherish the decade he spent suiting up for the Athletics' organization. Olson was drafted with the 47th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft and has since risen through the ranks.

He made his first All-Star team last year after a career season at first base, showcasing both his immense power at the plate as well as his phenomenal defensive capabilities.

The acquisition of Olson all but confirms what was becoming more clear in recent days, that the Braves don't intend to re-sign Freddie Freeman. Olson will have big shoes to fill at first base in Atlanta, but he seems ready for the challenge.
