The Philadelphia 76ers enter the season as one of the NBA’s younger teams, but that won’t be an excuse for them not to play like an experienced group.

Last season, they were among the worst defensive teams, so coach Brett Brown is looking at the upcoming campaign to instill a defensive mindset in his players.

He’ll have two promising big men who can take turns in anchoring the team’s defense in the persons of Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid. Also, Brown comes from the San Antonio Spurs, or Gregg Popovich, school of coaching so there is some inclination towards that end of the floor in his DNA.

The Sixers will want to grow up sans bad habits, and having a knack for pestering their opponents’ plays will be a very essential ingredient for them to enjoy a semblance of success in the near future.

They have the personnel for a long run of competitiveness, but that’s just half the battle. A proper mentality needs to be developed, and Brett Brown knows better than to delay the molding of his players defensive acumen.
