Drew Lock had a sensational start to his NFL career. The Denver Broncos quarterback posted a 4-1 record, making a losing team look like a winning one.

However, Broncos general manager John Elway wants to warn his young quarterback that he hasn't solidified anything yet.

“Obviously by no means has Drew made it,” Elway said. “We believe he's got the potential to do it, and I think we think he's just going to continue to get better and better. But he's still in the learning process and know that he's going to have to get better. But we really liked what we saw … when he was on IR [injured reserve] and how he tried to prepare himself and get ready to play when he had a chance to play. And then [he] came in and played very well, won four out of the last five games. We feel that he's that guy.

“… We've decided that we're going to build around Drew, [and] give him that opportunity to take the job.”

Lock is pegged to be the Broncos' franchise quarterback moving forward. However, as Elway notes, he still has to prove himself moving forward. The five-game sample size was pleasing, but by no means did it cement anything.

In his five starts, Lock threw seven touchdowns against three interceptions. He posted a 64.3 percent completion rate and an 89.7 quarterback rating with 1,020 passing yards. In fact, he led the Broncos to a win over the AFC South division champions, the Houston Texans. His lone loss was to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

2020 will be a pivotal year for Lock as he looks to solidify his status as the team's franchise quarterback.
