The Denver Broncos defeated the Detroit Lions in an emotional game on Sunday. They honored Demaryius Thomas after his sudden death and were able to come away with a win. From the heartfelt messages from past players to the ceremony before kickoff, Denver did everything right to honor Thomas.

However, one thing happened that was completely unplanned. During the Broncos' final drive, the team drove the ball 88 yards down the field to clinch the victory, per ESPN. That just so happens to be Demaryius Thomas' jersey number. Some of the players reacted to the news.

“That's crazy. That's crazy,” said Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton in utter disbelief.

Tim Patrick also reacted to the 88-yard drive, claiming “he's always going to be there [for us]. I think he's going to be there more in life … yeah, he probably was out there with us.”

It's amazing how little nuances like this seem to happen in these situations. Similar to when the Tennessee Titans honored Steve McNair, a cloud in the shape of a nine hovered above the stadium during the ceremony in 2019, per News Channel 5 Nashville. The Broncos had a similar occurrence with their 88-yard game-winning drive against the Lions.

The Broncos did everything necessary to honor Demaryius Thomas. There was a ceremony before the game, the number 88 was everywhere including the field, along with 88 decals on Denver's helmets. Additionally, on the opening play of the game, Denver took the field with 10 players and took a delay of game penalty, which the Lions declined.

Although Demaryius Thomas is gone, it's clear he will live on forever with the Denver Broncos.
