The Denver Broncos started the 2019 NFL season with Joe Flacco under center and things did not go well. Finally, late in the year, they switched over to rookie quarterback Drew Lock. With Pat Shurmur now on board, the signs of stardom that Lock showed in the five games he played are now expected to take a step forward.

Shurmur was named the offensive coordinator of the Broncos after being relieved of his head coaching duties with the New York Giants. He is a great offensive mind and should help Lock out quite a bit.

In a quote shared by Pro Football Talk, Shurmur talked about Lock's “bright future” with the Broncos.

“Obviously, we were in the market for a quarterback last year. And we have a very, very high opinion of Drew. We did a lot of work on him. We were very certain that he was going to have an outstanding career, and he had a bright future. I’m really looking forward to being able to work with him.”

As previously mentioned, Lock played in five games as a rookie for the Broncos. He completed 64.1 percent of his pass attempts for 1,020 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. Lock also picked up 72 yards on the ground.

It will be interesting to see how Lock looks next season. With a full offseason of work and Shurmur helping him take the next step, the Broncos have to feel good about him. John Elway finally seems to have found the long-term franchise quarterback that Denver has been searching for since Peyton Manning.
