Phillip Lindsay was left heartbroken after his name was not called in the 2018 NFL Draft. He felt like his impressive career at the University of Colorado Boulder warranted him being drafted, but unfortunately, the call never came. He was even more upset that his hometown team, the Denver Broncos, did not take a chance on him.

Lindsay started to field calls from interested teams once the draft ended and teams were allowed to pick up undrafted guys. He received calls from the Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Chargers. Then another call came through, this time from that team he had loved since he was a child: The Broncos. Despite being upset that the Broncos did not draft him, he decided to sign with them as an undrafted free agent.

Lindsay would go on to rush for two consecutive 1,000+ yard seasons, score 17 touchdowns, and have zero fumbles. In his rookie season, he became the first-ever undrafted offensive rookie to be voted to the Pro Bowl.

Despite going undrafted, it didn't take long for Lindsay to become the starter in the Broncos' backfield. He was beloved in Mile High City and his no. 30 jersey quickly became a fan favorite.

Unfortunately, his storybook start to his career with the Broncos dwindled. He was limited to just over 500 rushing yards in 2020 due to missing a majority of the season with a toe injury. Following the conclusion of the campaign, the Broncos placed a right of first refusal tender on Lindsay. The team, however, rescinded it a few days later, making him a free agent.

Sam Keeler of The Denver Post recently caught up with Lindsay at the Buffs’ 2022 spring football showcase on Saturday and asked him about possibly returning to the Broncos.

“Hey, man, I would be excited to be back home. I mean, it’s up the street. My family wouldn’t have to move anywhere. I’d love it. I love Broncos Country. I love the fans. They’re some of the best fans I’ve ever seen.”

Since his departure with the Broncos, Lindsay has bounced between the Texans and the Miami Dolphins but is currently a free agent. If the Broncos do choose to sign him, he could create a solid one-two punch in the backfield with Javonte Williams.
