The Denver Broncos aren't far removed from a Super Bowl victory. However, last season they went just 6-10 and didn't even make the playoffs.

Now they head into 2019 with a new team. Denver has a new veteran quarterback and a rookie waiting in the wings. They also have an exciting running back and a few wild cards and wide receiver.

Of course, the defense that the Broncos are rolling out should be very solid once again as well.

So what exactly should you expect from this team? According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, John Elway isn't answering that. Instead, he's leaving it up to the media.

“I’ll let you guys set that,” Elway told reporters on the question of expectations. “We know what our goals are. The bottom line is I never went into a season saying, ‘We’re going to be 10-6.’ I think we walk into every game with the idea that we can win it. The bottom line is we’ve got to go out and execute and play well. Obviously, you’ve got to get a little bit lucky and stay healthy, but our expectations are to take it a day at a time. Get through preseason, see what we have and then look forward to the opener in Oakland. Really take it one week at a time. Obviously, there are a lot of unknowns because it’s a new staff and a lot of new players. We put that all together. We’re hopeful to have a good year.”

This is a great way to look at a team. Everyone has an idea of how good they think a roster is. However, Elway's right when he talks about believing they can win every game. If you're the GM and you set up the roster, you should be extremely confident in it. That means you believe there's a realistic chance to win any and every game.

John Elway setting an expectation for the Denver Broncos would mean one of two things. Either there's a goal that will either not be lived, meaning the team underperformed – or they surpass the goal, making it look like Elway didn't have the proper faith in them. It's a lose-lose situation.
