When the Denver Broncos took Drew Lock in the second round of the NFL Draft back in April, many surmised that the Broncos had finally found their quarterback of the future.

However, a preseason thumb injury landed Lock on the injured reserve list, preventing him from playing for most of the 2019 campaign.

The rookie finally made his NFL debut in Week 13, completing 18 of his 28 passes for 134 yards, a couple of touchdowns and an interception in a win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He then followed that up by going 22-for-27 with 309 yards, three touchdowns and a pick in a much more impressive performance during a victory over the Houston Texans this past Sunday.

While head coach Vic Fangio has downplayed Lock's success over his first couple of starts, Broncos general manager John Elway says he understands the excitement surrounding the young signal-caller:

“I thought he played great,” said Elway, according to Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports. “I think that obviously it's okay to be excited about him because he’s played very, very well his first two starts. He’s handled himself great.”

Lock, who played his collegiate football at the University of Missouri, was considered by some to be one of the top two quarterbacks in this year's draft class, but he was the fourth signal-caller taken behind Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins.

One thing is for sure: for a franchise that has been struggling to find a stable presence under center since Peyton Manning's retirement, Lock's first two outings have to be a breath of fresh air.
