Noah Fant will bring an explosive element to the tight end position the Broncos have not had in some time.

Denver traded down from the 10th overall pick to the 20th to make the selection, one that was still seen as a great value by the team's decision makers.

“Well from 10 to 20, there are a lot of different twists,” general manager John Elway said via the team's website. “When you move back 10 spots, you never know exactly how it’s going to fall out. But we’re excited that Noah ended up being there and we stayed true to the board. And so we feel like we got great value moving back. I think Noah’s going to fit in very, very well. We’re excited about it.”

The Broncos received an extra second rounder this year (No. 52) as well as a third-rounder in 2020 for the trade down from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It “got a little hectic there,” Fangio admitted about the trade, but the Broncos came away from it all with an explosive player whose speed is “pretty close to the top of the line at the tight end position.”

Offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello's offense played a big role in the selection. The coach, formerly in the same role with the San Francisco 49ers, turned George Kittle into one of the most productive tight ends in the league last season.

When Scangarello picked up the phone to speak with Fant, he reminded him of that.

“Remember I told you,” Scangarello said. “It’s all about the system you land in, so they know how to use you, buddy. You couldn’t have come to a better place.”
