It's safe to say that Saturday was a bittersweet day for Denver Broncos wide receiver turned quarterback Kendall Hinton. Although he never would've dreamed to be starting at QB, his first and probably only game as Denver's thrower didn't exactly go great.

Amid the NFL's COVID-19 protocols, four Broncos quarterbacks were deemed ineligible to play. It forced the team to rely Hinton — a 23-year Wake Forst alum who entered the NFL this year as an undrafted prospect as a receiver. Per Arnie Stapleton of the Associated Press, Hinton shared how it felt like being named the Broncos' starting QB:

“I can easily say that was the most eventful 24 hours of my life, but when I got the call there was pure excitement. Of course, there was nerves and disbelief, but the encouragement the team gave me and guys just keeping me up the whole time, they made it a lot easier for me,” Hinton said, adding he “eventually got some sleep” Saturday night.

Unfortunately, the New Orleans Saints thoroughly exposed the WR-turned-QB. He completed just one of nine passes for 13 yards, gave the ball away twice, and was sacked once. He had a passer rating of zero. The Saints naturally won handily over the Broncos, 31-3.

Despite this horrendous performance, Hinton is just grateful to get the chance.

“I would not say this is how I planned it out in my dreams, but it usually doesn’t work out how you want it. So, just getting this opportunity and this experience has been amazing.”

The Broncos' next game will be on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Hopefully Hinton can go back to focusing on catching passes rather than throwing them.
