Denver Broncos general manager John Elway announced that quarterbacks Drew Lock and Brandon Allen will be splitting the reps in practice heading into their Week 13 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. It appears the reps have been taken in just that order.

According to Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post, Lock was the one that got the first snaps under center.

Lock getting the first reps on offense is a strong indication that the job seems to be his to lose going into Week 13. Although Elway and head coach Vic Fangio have left the question of which player will be the starter up in the air, they are giving the rookie every chance they can to prove he is the better option.

The Broncos have endured their fair share of struggles under center after placing quarterback Joe Flacco on injured reserve. Meanwhile, Lock had spent the entire 2019 NFL season on IR while recovering from a thumb injury.

As a result, Allen was left to essentially take over the offense for the rest of the year since Fangio had initially decided that the rookie did not need to play this season. Of course, that quickly changed once things took a turn for the worst in Week 12.

The onus will fall on Lock to prove that he is the superior option under center throughout the week of practice if he hopes to make his first career start against the Chargers. This should not be too difficult considering how poorly Allen has played since taking over the offense.
