Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady woke to the news that his friend and former rival, Broncos great Damaryius Thomas had passed away. Brady took to twitter to share his thoughts and feelings.

With an image included of them together at the Hall of Fame this past August, Brady relayed what everyone has been saying about Thomas.

“Im so sad to wake up this morning to hear about the passing of my friend Demariyus Thomas. We were all blessed with his humility and positive spirit, and we will all miss him. This photo is from the Hall of Fame this past August, a source of light as always. RIP”

Brady clearly felt the loss, as did everyone that knew Thomas. He was very well known for being a kind, good natured man who always seemed to smile.

Brady and Thomas had many great battles on the field. Tom Brady, as a member of the New England Patriots, squared off agains Thomas and the Broncos in a number of important games. That includes two different AFC Championship games.

Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas won both of those games. The first time in the 2013-2014 season, the Broncos ended up losing the Super Bowl to Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. But in 2016, Thomas finally ascended to championship status after defeating the Carolina Panthers to win Super Bowl 50.

Thomas was found dead at his home in Roswell, Georgia, police said Thursday. Authorities indicated his passing might have been caused by an existing medical issue. Thomas would have turned 34 years old on Christmas Day.
