The Denver Broncos lost a nailbiter to the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night. Regardless, it was still a historic night for linebacker Von Miller.

Miller was poised to break the franchise's all-time sack record at some point in the 2018 NFL season. He finally managed to do so late in the third quarter, via NFL Twitter:

According to Mike Klis of 9 News, he broke linebacker Simon Fletcher's long-standing record of 97.5 sacks over two decades ago:

Von Miller now has 98.0 career sacks. Simon Fletcher retired 23 years ago with franchise record of 97.5 sacks.

The timing could not be any better for Miller. He was able to break the record in front of a raucous home crowd. The Broncos celebrated in appropriate fashion by playing a video of Fletcher himself congratulating Miller for becoming the new sack leader. He was also in attendance to see it eclipsed in person.

Denver selected Fletcher in the second round of the 1985 NFL Draft out of Houston. He spent his entire 11-year career with the Broncos and was officially inducted into their Ring of Fame back in 2016. Although his franchise record may have fallen, he still shares the NFL record with DeMarcus Ware for most consecutive games with a sack (10).

Miller has long been considered the gold standard for pass-rushers in the NFL. It is only fitting that he finally holds the title as Denver's all-time sack leader. He now has the opportunity to add on to his mark to make sure it stands for years to come.
