The Cleveland Browns have continued their surge forward over the last several weeks, having won three out of their last five games that have kept them on the fringes in their push toward the playoffs.

This effort could be without a key piece to their defense as standout rookie cornerback Denzel Ward is still recovering from a concussion that has forced him to miss last Sunday's win over the Carolina Panthers. Ward has remained out of practice due to an injury this week that has pushed his status for this week's game against the Denver Broncos up in the air. (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk)

The first-round pick missed last Sunday’s win over the Panthers with a concussion and he remained out of practice on Tuesday as the team began on-field preparations for the trip to Denver. Head coach Gregg Williams said that Wednesday would be a big day in terms of determining Ward’s availability.

“If he can’t practice, it will be tough,” Williams said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com

Since suffering the injury against the Houston Texans, he has been unable to take the practice field in the days that have followed. It is a situation that doesn't necessarily have a set timetable for players to make a return as each occurrence can be vastly different.

Given the type of ailment he is dealing with, the Browns will continue to take a precautionary approach in order to ensure he is fully healed from the injury before giving him the green light to play. There should be more clarity on this status for this week's game against the Broncos over the next few days as he will first have to clear the concussion protocol.

Ward has quickly proven to be a rising star at his position behind his effective play in coverage and game-changing ability as he has 48 total tackles, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
