Cleveland Browns rookie Baker Mayfield isn’t quite ready to supplant Tyrod Taylor as the team’s starting quarterback at this moment in time. But Mayfield remains grateful for the position he currently finds himself in with the Browns.

The No. 1 pick in this year’s draft believes he’s in a “great” situation having someone like Taylor in front of him to learn from for the time being. He also took a shot at the Buffalo Bills for trading Taylor away for a third-round pick.

“They traded a third-round pick to Tyrod just doesn’t make sense,” Mayfield said on the ThomaHawk Show (per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk). “We got a lot more out of that than anybody else could. The guy that he is for this franchise, for all of our teammates is unbelievable. For me to watch him and learn him has been great. He sets the bar high, shows up, his work ethic, it’s a great situation for me to come into to have someone like that. It’s good for me.”

Despite three fairly successful years as the starting quarterback in Buffalo, the Bills still decided to part ways with Taylor this offseason as they drafted Josh Allen to be their quarterback of the future.

To be fair, the Browns also picked up their potential franchise QB in Mayfield and view Taylor as more of a bridge quarterback as Mayfield takes time to develop.

Based on how Mayfield has described Taylor, though, it seems as though the Browns picked up the right player to help the No. 1 pick through the next year or two. Taylor appears to be a consummate professional who will do all the right things and be an exemplary role model not just for Mayfield but the entire team.
