Cleveland Browns safety Morgan Burnett is being placed on injured reserved as the result of a torn Achilles injury that he suffered earlier this season, according to the team.

This news comes on top of the fight that took place on Thursday Night Football including, Mason Rudolph, Myles Garrett, Maurkice Pouncey, and Larry Ogunjobi.

Burnett is a recent free-agent signing of the Browns, who recorded 41 tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed and an interception in eight games with the team.

The injury, which came in the second quarter of the team's 21-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a significant hit to the Browns' secondary. They were already without starting safety Eric Murray and losing Burnett certainly makes matters worse.

With back-to-back wins, Cleveland finds itself in the hunt for a Wild Card spot in the AFC playoff picture, still behind the Pittsburgh Steelers among others.

The Browns have a favorable remaining schedule as they face the Miami Dolphins, Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, and Bengals again. It is possible Cleveland will be fighting for one of the final AFC Wild Card spots. However, it will be a challenge without the team's top pass rusher and with key members of their secondary out with injury.

Before joining the Browns, Burnett played eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers and one season with the Steelers. He has totaled 788 tackles, 10 interceptions, 9.5 sacks, and eight forced fumbles in his 10-year NFL career.

Burnett is still on contract for the Browns for the 2020 season but will be an unrestricted free agent before the 2021 season.
