The Cleveland Browns are a unique position of holding the first and fourth overall picks in the 2018 NFL draft that has put them in play to add a promising young quarterback to the mix. There will be several intriguing options on the board for the organization at either of those top selections.

This has also built the notion that if a quarterback is selected, the reigns would be immediately handed over to them to lead the team to success on the field in 2018. However, head coach Hue Jackson has shot that premise by stating that the Browns don't expect to go that route if they pick a quarterback, per Pat McManamon of ESPN.

“Would we have to [play him]?” Jackson told reporters. “I would hope not.”

The Browns have struggled with this process over the last several years that has contributed to their continued struggles of finding a long-term answer under center. This was the case last season with the decision to name Deshone Kizer as the starting quarterback to begin the season over Brock Osweiler.

Following a strong performance in the season opener, it saw many discouraging performances on the field for the 22-year-old that have now led the franchise to look for another option at the position in possibly the draft for the second straight year. Granted, Kizer is still clearly a development project at this stage of his career, it was a poor mishandling of the situation that set him up to struggle out of the gate to start his NFL career.

Nonetheless, the Browns will have an opportunity to take any quarterback in this year's crop with the likely frontrunner being USC's Sam Darnold. There are players in play such as UCLA's Josh Rosen, Wyoming's Josh Allen, and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield. Ultimately, Jackson now has a better understanding of how to manage this type of situation next season if the team does decide to take another quarterback in the first round.
