Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens took all the blame for Sunday night's questionable play-calling during their final drive against the Los Angeles Rams, but he wasn't going to let former NFL head coach Rex Ryan criticize his second-year quarterback.

Ryan called Mayfield “overrated as hell” this week, and those comments didn't sit well with Kitchens as he called those comments “asinine” in addition to Ryan also condemning comments made by Ryan, via Fox Sports. While Mayfield hasn't played as well as some thought so far this season, it isn't entirely his fault with injuries taking a toll on the offensive side of the ball and especially the defensive side.

The Browns nearly pulled out a victory Sunday night against the Rams as they failed to get the ball into the red zone for a potential game-tying touchdown and extra point that would have sent the game into overtime. No one can deny that Mayfield's splits aren't good as he as has thrown five interceptions and only three touchdowns. In order to compete against a Baltimore Ravens team that is improving every week, and also had their chances against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, the Browns offense will have to produce in the kind of matter that got people so excited coming into the season.

As many question Kitchens in his first year at the helm and whether or not he was ready for this kind of job, critics will not slow down in denouncing the Browns, Kitchens, and Mayfield as overrated.
